We run book drives every few months in local neighborhoods, collecting new and gently used reading material for communities in need. Each drive, we collect several bags of books, adding to our running total of several hundred books. Our student volunteers spend time on weekends dropping off flyers and picking up book bags the next, before sorting through the bags of collected books. In the past, we have donated books to organizations such as local schools as well as KAFPA.
Our volunteers donate books every year to Family Connections, an underfunded local preschool. We read to their students at weekend events, helping to foster a love for reading in young students who don't otherwise have many opportunities to read books.
We run a monthly Book Club event for children with the Kinship, Adoptive, and Foster Parent Association (KAFPA). Our volunteers bring books to read with children within KAFPA families and offer an enjoyable introduction or continuation into the world of reading. At the end of each event, the children get to take home their favorite books before coming back the next month.
